Bi-Annual Trips to the Dentist![]() Why You Need to See Us Twice a YearWe get it. We do. Many of you have a genuine fear of coming to see us, debilitating anxiety known as dentophobia. This is a true phobia and keeps millions of people who need critical dental care from actually scheduling it. However, please understand that keeping your appointments with us can relieve your fear of us – routine appointments not only help normalize good oral hygiene, it can also prevent any scary dental problems from sneaking up on you! Taking care of your teeth is teamwork. It would help if you started a good oral hygiene regimen at home, but we also need to call you in twice a year for a checkup and a cleaning. During your appointment, we will not only look inside your mouth to make sure you are not developing any tooth decay, but we will also look at other areas of concern. These include problems with jaw alignment, tooth loss, jaw pain, and even screening for oral cancer. We will also check your oral health to make sure you do not have gum disease, an infection of the gums that can lead to tooth loss and systemic infection and illness. If it has been longer than two years since your last dental appointment, we may also recommend dental X-rays. This will allow us to determine if you have any active tooth decay or tooth or bone problems. These X-rays will stay in your file so we can track any changes to your oral health each time you come in for a checkup. We will also clean your teeth during your appointment. A dental cleaning includes us brushing your teeth for you and polishing them with a special type of gritty toothpaste. We will also floss your teeth while you are here. If we notice blood during the flossing, we will recommend that you floss more often at home, at least once per day. We will also scale your teeth, which means that we will remove any hardened tartar (calculus) from your teeth. This will help brighten and improve the health of your smile! We may also offer you a fluoride rinse, which will help strengthen and remineralize your teeth. We Can HelpPlease do not wait until you are in pain to give us a call! We need to see you every six months to help you have your healthiest mouth.
