Implant Supported Dentures![]() While most of our patients seem to be aware of dentures and even implants, many more do not know that they can have the best of both worlds. Implant supported dentures give you a permanent and attractive replacement option when you have sustained tooth loss, and we here at Tieken Smiles Dentistry are happy to fit our patients with this fantastic restoration option to give them back a smile that can make them feel confident again. Am I a Good Candidate for Implant Supported Dentures? Many of our patients are familiar with traditional dentures but do not seem to realize how inconvenient they can be. While traditional dentures do have the advantage of not requiring surgery to get them, please know that implant surgery is safe, routine, and outpatient. It is performed under a combination of a local and intravenous anesthetic, and you will be able to go home shortly afterward. Implant supported dentures are a permanent replacement for tooth loss. Getting them requires the placement of just four dental implants, upon which we can place your implant supported a denture. Unlike single dental implants, which may require a bone graft before we can place it, implant supported dentures often do not require this procedure. Furthermore, getting implant supported dentures often results in our patients walking out of our office with a brand-new smile during the same initial appointment. The same cannot always be said for traditional dentures, which often require your gums to heal after extraction before they can be finalized. Traditional dentures simply pale in comparison to implant supported dentures. They are not permanent, and even if you take good care of them, they need to be replaced every seven to ten years. Implant supported dentures, on the other hand, can last you the rest of your life. Traditional dentures require relining after time, too, and due to gum shrinkage. They also do not prevent bone loss. Implant supported dentures not only prevent this shrinkage, but they can also prevent bone loss, too! They do not need to be adjusted later on, either. When a person wears traditional dentures, they will find that they are avoiding their favorite foods out of fear of either damaging or dislodging their dentures. Dentures have only about 10 percent of the bite force of your natural teeth. Implant supported dentures, though, have full bite force and are not at risk of popping out of your mouth and embarrassing you. Dentures can be an obnoxious addition to your mouth, actually limiting your ability to both eat and speak. You can speak clearly with implant supported dentures, and they do not shift or click like regular dentures are prone to doing.
